The Chief Prelates of Asgiriya and Malwathu Chapters have requested President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to close the country for a week in order to control the spread of the coronavirus.

The Chief Prelates made this request via a letter directed to the President today.

The Chief Prelates claim all citizens are facing a catastrophic situation due to the rapid spread of COVID-19 highlighting that the number of infected persons and virus-related deaths are rising daily.

In the Chief Prelates letter, they call for the closure of the country for at least a week based on the advice and recommendations of health experts as the World Health Organization too has warned of a major health crisis in Sri Lanka in the months ahead.
