COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Around 40 trade unions attached to various sectors will engage in an island-wide protest today.

The Professional Trade Union Alliance (PTUA) said it tabled reasonable demands calling to amend the oppressive tax policy being implemented.

The Alliance however stated that its demands were declined by the government.

The Alliance, which consists of 40 trade unions representing a wide spectrum of professions in the island, will accordingly launch an island-wide token strike today.

The Central Bank Trade Union Alliance accordingly stated that disruptions could be reported in operations of the Employees’ Provident Fund Department, cash counters and Regional Offices.
