COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Around 15,000 vehicles have been registered at the Department of Motor Traffic, during the first eight months of 2022.
Commissioner General of Motor Traffic Nishantha Anuruddha Weerasingha said accordingly, 6,209 motorcycles and 964 cars have been registered in 2022.
However, only 19 three-wheelers have been registered during the first eight months of the year.
According to the Motor Traffic Department, 2,093 three-wheelers were registered in the country last year.
Furthermore, 7,150 three-wheelers in 2020, 15,490 in 2019 and 20,063 three-wheelers had been registered at the Motor Traffic Department in 2018.
The Commissioner General of Motor Traffic said on average around 50,000 three-wheelers had been registered in the country annually between 2011 and 2020.
The highest number of three-wheelers registered at the Department in a year was in 2011.
According to data, 138,426 three-wheelers had been registered in 2011; however it had come down to just 19 in 2022.
A total of 1,184,339 three-wheelers are registered in Sri Lanka thus far while the number of motorcycles registered at the Motor Traffic Department stands at 4,833,928.
