Army Sergeant & former soldier arrested over the theft of a T-56 firearm

An Army Sergeant and a former Army soldier have been arrested over the theft of a T-56 firearm and three magazines with 90 rounds of ammunition.

COLOMBO (NewsRadio); An Army Sergeant and a former Army soldier have been arrested over the theft of a T-56 firearm and three magazines with 90 rounds of ammunition.

The arrests were made based on a complaint lodged at the Homagama Police over the disappearance of a T-56 firearm and bullets of a solider attached to the Panagoda Army Camp.

Police said a former Army soldier who was in possession of the firearm and the bullets and another Army soldier who allegedly aided and abetted him were arrested in Magammana, Homagama.

The arrested Army soldier, aged 36 is a resident of Veyangoda while the former soldier is a 30-year-old resident of Middeniya.

They are scheduled to be produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court today.

The Homicide and Organized Crime Investigation Division is conducting further investigations.
