Ministers Secretaries’ Union has requested the President to issue circulars to appoint honest and experienced state employees as Secretaries to the new Ministers to be appointed.
A letter directed to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa said each of the 20 Ministers slated to be appointed will have the opportunity to appoint a total of 100 Secretaries, with five Secretaries each.
The letter said the government will incur a total cost of Rs.10 million since the monthly salary for each Secretary would be Rs.100,000.
The Union said if the Secretary posts are given to individuals who are currently in state service or semi-state service, they will not need to be given a new salary adding their relevant salaries will be covered by the institution they are employed at.
The Union also urged the Head of State to only provide the allowance given to Parliamentarians to new Ministers instead of the Minister’s allowance.
