COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Court of Appeal is scheduled to announce its decision pertaining to issuing notice on Parliamentarian Sanath Nishantha to appear before Court on charges of contempt of court.

The Appeals Court bench consisting of Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and R Gurusinghe is scheduled to announce its decision after considering the petition filed by Attorneys Vijith Kumar and Priyalal Sirisena.

The petition was filed earlier this month and MP Nishantha, the Sri Lanka Bar Association, and the Attorney General were cited as respondents.

The petitioners called for an investigation into a statement by MP Nishantha, that they claim was in contempt of court, during a media briefing held recently.

The petitioners claimed that MP Nishantha at a media briefing on the 23rd of August at the SLPP headquarters had made a statement that defamed the judicial system.
