Physician Dr. KM Ragunathan says antibiotics and pain killers are not recommended for COVID-19.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Dr. KM Ragunathan said COVID-19 is a virus and there is no cure for a viral infection.

Dr. Ragunathan noted viral infections don’t respond to antibiotics and strong pain killers are not good.

He said it was observed that some doctors recommend such medicine, adding however patients cannot be asked to refrain from visiting doctors because all medical practitioners don’t make the same mistake.

He stressed he recommends Paracetamol if a COVID-19 patient has fever, only when an individual has fever or body aches, and not once every six hours.

He added that it is 100 percent sufficient.

Dr. Ragunathan claimed he is not opposed to taking Vitamin C, B and Zinc as they are harmless, adding however that it is not necessary.

He said however antibiotics and Prednisolone are harmful.
