COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Another petition has been filed against State Minister Sanath Nishantha at the Court of Appeal.
The Judicial Service Association of Sri Lanka (JSASL), which represents all Magistrates and District Court Judges in the country, filed a contempt of court application at the Appeals Court seeking an order to penalise State Minister Sanath Nishantha for the offence of Contempt of Court.
Petitioner claims that State Minister Sanath Nishantha during a media briefing held in Battaramulla on the 23rd of August, made a statement in relation to the arrest and release of protesters, which amounts to a direct interference with the due and proper administration of justice.
Petitioner while naming State Minister Sanath Nishantha as a respondent had stated that he is already a suspect in a matter pending before Court and several judicial orders have been made against him.
Petitioner also claims that State Minister Sanath Nishantha had attempted to influence future Court orders and attempted to intimidate the Judiciary in general.
