(NewsRadio); Another four inmates who escaped from the Thaldena Open Prison Rehabilitation Centre in Badulla have been apprehended.
Nine persons held at the Thaldena Rehabilitation Centre escaped last morning.
Subsequently, two persons were apprehended while hiding in a forest in Thaldena last morning itself.
Meanwhile, last evening, four others were apprehended while hiding in a reserve in Kandaketiya.
Police said the arrested individuals, aged between 22 and 27 are residents of Mattakkuliya, Wellampitiya, Dematagoda and Maligawatte.
They will be produced before the Badulla Magistrate’s Court today.
They were directed to the Thaldena Open Prison Rehabilitation Centre about two months ago after being imprisoned on narcotics related charges.
Meanwhile, Prisons Spokesman Commissioner Chandana Ekanayake said an operation is underway to apprehend the remaining inmates who escaped from the centre last morning.
