COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Attention has been drawn towards increasing the retirement age or the service period of state workers who fall under a special category.

According to the Ministry of Public Administration, the focus is on taking a decision on the retirement period of special state employees such as nurses, specialist doctors and train drivers.

The development comes as nearly 30,000 state employees retired on the 31st of December 2022.

Secretary to the Ministry of Public Administration Neil Bandara Hapuhinna said attention has been drawn towards increasing the retirement age of public servants to at least 65 years in several special fields.

The Secretary also said that a discussion was held in this regard yesterday at the Ministry of Public Administration, but a final decision has not been taken thus far.
