Sri Lanka’s coronavirus related death toll is nearing the grim milestone of 5,000.
98 COVID-19 related fatalities were confirmed yesterday, the highest single-day spike since a new system was implemented to report deaths in the country.
Accordingly, the COVID death toll has increased to 4,919.
44 females and 54 males and were among the victims.
Of the female victims, 33 were over 60 years and 11 were between 30 and 59 years.
37 of the male victims were over 60 years of age while 16 were between the ages of 30 and 59 years.
One male below the age of 30 years also succumbed with COVID-19.
