Another 212 coronavirus related fatalities have been confirmed in Sri Lanka, raising the death toll to 8,583.
The Director General of Health Services in a statement said all 212 deaths occurred yesterday, the 27th of August.
109 males and 103 females were among the victims.
173 persons, 88 males and 85 females among the group that succumbed to the virus, were 60 years of age or above.
Meanwhile, 37 individuals, 20 males and 17 females, were between 30 and 59 years of age.
Two individuals, a male and a female who were below the age of 30 years also passed away yesterday after contracting the novel coronavirus.
