COLOMBO (NewsRadio); A special discussion will be held pertaining to normal bus fares and fares of buses operating on expressways today.
Minister of Transport Bandula Gunawardena said the discussion will be held at the National Transport Commission at 10am.
Meanwhile, Director General of the National Transport Commission Nilan Miranda has said a calculation is being carried out at present to determine the percentage by which bus fares can be reduced after diesel prices were reduced on two occasions by a total of Rs.25.
He said the price of a litre of diesel was reduced by Rs.15 with effect from yesterday (3) and efforts are underway to implement a bus fare reduction as well.
Miranda said the calculations will be forwarded to the Minister of Transport and if approved, will be made public.
He added that bus fares of both Sri Lanka Transport Board and private buses will be revised under such circumstances.
Miranda also stated that a decision in this regard will be announced in two days adding that the NTC is striving to ease the burden on the public.
