Health units confirm that approval has been granted to administer all vaccines against the coronavirus to expectant women, excluding the Russian manufactured Sputnik-V vaccine.
Thus far only the Sinopharm vaccine was being administered to expectant women.
Speaking at a media briefing today Secretary of the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Dr. Chaminda Mathota said expectant women can be administered both the epilepsy and vaccine against COVID-19.
Dr. Mathota said the COVID-19 Advisory Committee on vaccinations approved the move to administer any vaccine to expectant women except the Sputnik-V.
He noted that an expectant female can obtain the vaccine during any point of their pregnancy, even during the first 12 weeks.
Dr. Mathota claimed that in the event of a concern between priority of the epilepsy and COVID-19 vaccine, the vaccine against the coronavirus should be prioritised.
