COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Agriculture has commenced depositing funds to bank accounts of the paddy farmers utilizing Rs.8 billion granted by the Asian Development Bank.
The Agriculture Ministry said small-scale farmers cultivating paddy will receive financial support for a maximum of two hectares during the upcoming cultivation season.
Farmers who cultivate on one hectare will receive Rs.10,000 while Rs.20,000 for two hectares cultivated.
The Ministry will inform the paddy farmers through text messages once the money is deposited in their bank accounts.
The SMS service was also officially launched by Minister of Agriculture Mahinda Amaraweera yesterday (29).
The Ministry noted that a total of Rs.4 billion has been deposited in the farmers’ accounts by yesterday and another Rs.2 billion will be deposited within the day today.
The remaining Rs.2 billion is expected to be deposited after the 1st of January.
