COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Supreme Court today granted time to the Attorney General to submit several important documents related to petition filed against Secretary to the Treasury Mahinda Siriwardana.
Time was granted when the petitions filed against the Treasury Secretary for the offence of Contempt of the Court under Article 105(3) of the Constitution were taken up this morning.
Two contempt of court cases were filed against Treasury Secretary Mahinda Siriwardana for alleged failure to comply with a Supreme Court order issued regarding in relation to the conduct of the Local Authorities Election.
Petitioners are seeking an order from the Supreme Court to charge the Treasury Secretary for the offence of Contempt of the Court.
The Supreme Court on the 3rd of March, issued an interim order preventing the Treasury Secretary and other state officials from withholding any funds allocated through the 2023 Budget for the conduct of the Local Authorities Election.
The directive was issued considering a Fundamental Rights petition filed over the delay to conduct the Local Authorities Election.
