Afghanistan have won the toss and elected to field first against Sri Lanka in the 2022 Asia Cup opener at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Sri Lanka handed pace bowlers Matheesha Pathirana and Dilshan Madushanka their international debuts today.
Afghanistan captain Mohammad Nabi at the toss said he is taking a chance and bowling first since no cricket had been played on the Dubai deck in recent days.
Nabi also said he is banking on his all-rounders to topple the Lankans.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka said he would’ve also liked to bowl first.
Sri Lanka have gone with a batsman less for the Asia Cup opener.
All-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva did not feature in the playing XI despite being able to provide his skipper with an additional bowling option along with his clean hitting.
Sri Lanka along with Afghanistan and Bangladesh are in Group B of the Asia Cup while India, Pakistan and Hong Kong are in Group A.
Finals of the 2022 Asia Cup will be worked-off in Dubai on the 11th of September.
