COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Meteorology has advised naval and fishing communities not to venture into the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Mannar to Pottuvil via Kankesanturai, Trincomalee and Batticaloa and Southwest Bay of Bengal until further notice.
The Met Department issuing an advisory for strong winds and rough seas said those in the Bay of Bengal should return to the coast or move to safer areas immediately.
It added, the depression over the southeast Bay of Bengal has concentrated into a deep depression and located near latitude 8.7N and longitude 85.7E.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards, intensify gradually into a Cyclonic Storm.
The Met Department said the system is likely to approach the coast of North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and South Andhra Pradesh over southwest Bay of Bengal tomorrow.
Meanwhile, wind speeds will be 60-70kmph and can increase up to 80kmph in sea areas.
Heavy showers or thundershowers and rough seas can be expected in northern and eastern seas.
