COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Meteorology says the depression over southeast Arabian Sea has intensified into cyclonic storm “BIPARJOY” and is centered near latitude 12.5°N and longitude 66.0°E.
The Met Department said it is likely to move nearly northwards and intensify into a severe cyclonic storm during next six hours.
It added, due to the system, wind speeds will be 70 to 80kmph and can increase up to 90 to 100kmph in seas off west of Sri Lanka during next 24 hours.
The Met Department said heavy showers or thundershowers; and very rough seas can also be expected in the western sea areas.
Meanwhile, the naval and fishing communities have been advised not to venture into the sea areas bounded by (07N – 17N) and between (60E – 70E) until further notice.
