The Cabinet of Ministers has granted approval to allocate additional Rs. 19,000 million under the vote of the Department of Pensions through the special rules for the payment of widows, widowers and orphans’ pensions.
Approximately Rs. 300,000 million is to be borne by the Treasury as pension benefits for the public service officers for the year 2021 while an amount of Rs. 35,500 million has been allocated exclusively for widows, widowers and orphans’ pensions.
According to the Cabinet paper presented by the Minister of Finance an amount of Rs. 26,367 million out of the amount has already been spent by the 30th June and an additional amount of Rs. 19,000 million is required to make the remaining payments.
Accordingly, the Cabinet has granted approval to allocate the sum under special rules provisions vested with the Minister of Finance.
