Police have taken steps to increase checkpoints and deploy additional officers at entry and exit points to the Western Province from today.
The measures were taken after it was observed that the number of persons exiting and arriving in the Western Province has increased, in violation of provincial travel restrictions.
Police said 86 persons travelling in 59 vehicles were issued warnings and turned back at 13 entry and exit points to the Western Province yesterday.
Permission has not been granted for the public to travel across provincial borders.
Police said legal action will be taken against persons violating provincial travel restrictions, adding that three drivers were arrested on the relevant charges by the Thalangama Police yesterday.
Meanwhile 93 persons have been arrested yesterday on charges of violating quarantine regulations.
Police said 53,359 persons have been arrested on the relevant charges thus far.
