COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Department of Examinations says the evaluation of 2022 GCE Advanced Level Examination answer scripts will be expedited from today.
According to the Commissioner-General of Examinations Amith Jayasundera additional 10 more paper-marking centre will be opened today under the second phase of A/L Exam paper evolution process.
The evaluation of Advanced Level Examination answer scripts commenced a few days ago despite the strike by a group of university lecturers.
A/L paper marking activities were delayed due to the strike launch by the Federation of University Teachers Associations over the recent tax hike.
The Department then decided to commence A/L paper marking with the available teachers and university lecturers considering the impact the students will have due to the lengthy delays to release the exam results.
Last week, the Federation of University Teachers Associations announced that it has taken a decision to suspend the strike and its members will be available for A/L paper marking activities.
Although the government did not agree to retract the tax amendment, it appears that the university lecturers have decided to end their strike considering the backlash from the public and the requests made by several corners.
Several factions had urged authorities, universities lecturers and teachers involved to solve their concerns and promptly complete the paper evaluation and release the A/L Exam results, since students are waiting to apply for university entrance locally and internationally.
Accordingly, it is expected that around 1,300 university lecturers will be joining paper marking activities in the coming work which will help expedite the process.
