The Ceylon Teachers’ Union says the teacher principal salary anomalies will not be resolved the instant a Cabinet Paper is issued.
Speaking at a media briefing today Chief Secretary of the Union Joseph Stalin said they requested subject Ministers, the Ministry of Education and the Cabinet Sub-Committee to organise a round of discussions but to no avail.
Stalin said if their grievances are addressed by the government through the discussion, they can resume online teaching promptly, that they were willingly engaged in.
He said the Cabinet Sub-Committee that was appointed to provide solutions to their grievances tabled its report on the 30th of August, adding that since then the committee has been forcing teachers and principals to accept the report.
He claimed there is no transparency in the manner in which the proposals will be implemented including the issuance of circulars and the relevant gazette.
Stalin added such measures must be resorted through discussions.
He acknowledged that students have been affected by the suspension of online teaching, claiming the government must be held responsible for the disruption of education.
