The Ceylon Electricity Board says barring a few places the power supply which was disrupted to the entire country earlier today has been restored.
A senior CEB spokesperson informed NewsRadio that as of 6pm, following the reactivation of all grid substations, the power supply to a majority of consumers had been restored.
The CEB said however it will take about two days to reactivate the Norochcholai Power Plant.
Accordingly, the power supply to areas adjacent to the Anuradhapura, Habarana, Laxapana, Athurugiriya, Kotmale, Katunayake and Biyagama substations has been restored.
The CEB said nearly 1,000 MW have been added to the national grid. The Ministry of Power said an island-wide power outage was reported at around 11.45 am due to a breakdown in the transmission lines.
The Ceylon Electricity Board then announced that it will take at least another three hours to completely restore power supply.
Accordingly, the power supply has been restored to several areas in Colombo and other areas. Meanwhile, the water supply has been disrupted in several areas in Colombo and suburbs.
The National Water Supply and Drainage Board attributed the water cut to power disruptions reported across the country.
