The Sri Lanka Medical Association says individuals above the age of 60 or persons with various chronic diseases should not have any fear in obtaining a vaccine against the coronavirus.
Chairman of the Association Specialist Dr. Padma Gunaratne speaking at a media briefing said COVID-vaccines are highly effective against contracting the coronavirus and in minimising deaths by the virus.
She requested all unvaccinated individuals to obtain the first available vaccine considering it the best vaccine.
Dr. Gunaratne said individuals over the age of 60 are hesitant in obtaining the vaccine due to their age and pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart conditions and cancer.
Gunaratna said fully vaccinated individuals could still be a carrier adding therefore they must also adhere to health guidelines including wearing masks.
