Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella says steps will be taken to produce 50 to 60 percent of the medicinal drugs required for the country domestically by the year 2025.
Speaking at an event held in the Galagedara electorate the Health Minister said there will be no shortage of medicines in the country, despite various challenges and difficulties that may arise amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Rambukwella said the pharmaceutical manufacturing process in the country is being carried out in a successful manner at present adding plans are in place to manufacture several medicinal drugs as well as medical devices required for the country.
It was revealed that four pharmaceutical factories are being established in Anuradhapura while operations have commenced at a factory in Horana.
The factory in Horana is an investment of USD 15 billion.
The Minister noted the establishment of pharmaceutical factories in the country is profitable for investors adding therefore maximum facilities will be provided for the production of pharmaceuticals in the country.
