COLOMBO (NewsRadio); An individual has been arrested in Ambepitiya, Beruwala with 8.3kg of heroin.
The Police Media Division said the Beruwala resident was arrested based on information provided by another individual who was arrested in Tangalle on Sunday.
He was in possession of seven packages of heroin weighing 8.304kg at the time of his arrest at his residence.
The 42-year-old individual was arrested by officers attached to the Police Narcotics Bureau of the Galle Division.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the arrested individual and five others had found two sacks containing 25 parcels of heroin floating in Southern Seas on the 11th of October.
They had left the Kudawella harbor on a fishing trawler but returned with the haul of heroin.
The six-member crew and the owner of the boat had then agreed to share the narcotics haul among themselves.
Police said the arrested individual was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate yesterday and was detained for seven days for questioning.
Meanwhile, NewsRadio was informed that the individual who was arrested on Sunday in Tangalle was in possession of 544g of heroin.
The 43-year-old from Nakulugamuwa was also produced before the Tangalle Magistrate and detained for seven days.
The PNB has launched an investigation to arrest the remaining individuals and seize the narcotics.
