Around 40 Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna Parliamentarians have decided to function independently in Parliament.
Yesterday, the Sri Lanka Freedom Party announced that the SLFP will withdraw its support to the government.
Accordingly, Former President Maithripala Sirisena in Parliament announced today that all 14 SLFP MPs will function independently.
Meanwhile, earlier today the Ceylon Workers Congress announced that it has withdrawn its support to the government.
Accordingly, the two CWC MPs will function independently. Furthermore, today Parliamentarian Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said 11 SLPP MPs will function as an independent group in Parliament.
MP Anura Priyadharshana Yapa said he cannot support the programme of the present administration and therefore his faction decided to function as an independent group.
Meanwhile, Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa informed Parliament today that 16 Parliamentarians elected through the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna ticket will function as an independent group.
Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa said 16 MPs from 10 political parties will continue to function independently.
MP Weerawansa said the present administration must resign while an interim government must be formed.
The Parliamentarian claimed MPs Udaya Gammanpila, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, Prof. Tissa Vitharana, Tiran Alles, Ven. Athuraliye Rathana Thera, Gevindu Cumaratunga, Weerasumana Weerasinghe, Mohomad Muzammil, Asanka Navarathna, Nimal Piyathissa, Gamini Waleboda, ALM Athaullah, Gayashan Nawananda, Uddika Premarathne, Jayantha Samaraweera and himself will continue to function independently against the government similar to their actions throughout the past.
