A majority of COVID-19 cases have been detected from the Colombo District yesterday.
The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country rose to 296,516 following the detection of 1,666 patients yesterday.
360 infections were detected from Colombo while 256 cases were identified from Gampaha, 172 from Galle, 170 from Ampara and 139 from Kalutara.
71 coronavirus cases were reported from Jaffna, 60 from Hambantota, 54 from Kandy, 52 from Nuwara Eliya, 45 from Badulla and 40 from Batticaloa.
33 cases were also confirmed from Matale, 32 from Kilinochchi, 29 from Ratnapura, 24 from Kegalle, 21 from Matara, and 17 from Kurunegala.
14 cases each were identified from Vavuniya and Monaragala, 13 from Mullaitivu, 12 from Anuradhapura, nine each from Puttalam, Polonnaruwa and Mannar and one from Trincomalee.
10 persons who arrived from overseas also tested positive for the virus yesterday.
