The Ministry of Health says it has conducted on average close to 32,000 COVID tests daily in the month of August.

Speaking to media Director of the Health Promotion Bureau Specialist Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa said continuous testing has helped Health Authorities reduce the number of daily cases reported.

Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa also revealed that 527,431 PCR tests were conducted during the month of August alongside 450,000 rapid antigen tests as well.

Dr. Batuwanthudawa noted that 8,475 PCR tests and 3,507 antigen tests were conducted during the past 24 hours.

Dr. Ranjith Batuwanthudawa also commented that vaccine doses that are required to inoculate all persons in the age category of youth between 20 to 29 have been disbursed to 420 vaccination centres island wide.

Therefore, he claimed that certain people avoiding vaccination in order to get a different jab is futile.

Dr. Batuwanthudawa said around 41% of the youth have received at least one jab of the vaccine while a sizable amount of 12.6% of youth have been fully vaccinated.

He commented that the youth must get vaccinated with the jabs available in their respective regions since different vaccine doses will not be shipped hereafter.
