Over 300 coronavirus cases have been recorded from the Matale District yesterday.
The number of COVID-19 cases confirmed in the country rose to 316,219 following the detection of 2,450 patients yesterday.
The National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak said 311 COVID infections were reported from the Matale District, while 293 cases from the Colombo District, 223 from Kalutara District and 189 from the Kandy District were also recorded yesterday.
176 coronavirus patients were identified from Ampara, 167 from Batticaloa, 140 from Gampaha, 133 from Galle and 109 from Ratnapura.
Meanwhile, 95 infections were recorded from Jaffna, 79 from Hambantota, 72 from Badulla, 67 from Anuradhapura, 58 from Kurunegala, and 54 from Kegalle.
Furthermore, 49 virus infections were recorded from Puttalam, 46 from Monaragala, 44 from Kilinochchi, 37 from Matara and 30 from Polonnaruwa. 20 COVID cases were reported from Nuwara Eliya, 11 from Trincomalee, nine from Mullaitivu, six from Vavuniya and five from Mannar.
27 individuals who arrived in the island from overseas recently also tested positive for the virus yesterday.
