The second post-mortem examination of the 16-year-old girl, who died due to burn injuries while being employed at Parliamentarian Rishad Bathiudeen’s residence recently, will be performed today.
A specialist team comprising Professor Jean Perera of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology of the Faculty of Medicine, at the University of Colombo, Head of the same Department and Senior Lecturer Dr. Sameera Anuruddha Gunawardena and Specialist Judicial Medical Officer of the Department of Forensic Medicine at the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital Dr. Prabhath Senasinghe will conduct the post-mortem examination.
Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said Police is expecting to uncover details pertaining to the exact cause of death and several other matters through the second post-mortem.
He said they are also expecting information regarding injuries, is she was physically assaulted and regarding the timeframe during which she was sexually assaulted.
The remains of the 16-year-old girl that were exhumed yesterday were sent to the Peradeniya Teaching Hospital.
Her remains were exhumed based on a Court order.
No objections were raised by the relatives to open the coffin to identify the body upon the exhumation.
Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said investigations will be taken forward based on the findings.
