The Colombo Crimes Division has arrested an individual in relation to the discovery of a hand grenade at a private hospital in Narahenpita yesterday.
The suspect is a 26-year-old resident from Uppuveli, Trincomalee.
Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Talduwa said extensive investigation has been launched while the CCD and the Narahenpita Police are also reviewing CCTV footage.
SSP Nihal Talduwa said they are hoping to uncover the motive of the suspect who had managed to take the hand grenade into the hospital.
The grenade was attached to a mosquito coil in a toilet on the first floor of the hospital.
Statements were recorded from three individuals including a hospital employee over the incident.
Police presence was beefed up yesterday in and around the hospital following the incident.
