253 persons have been arrested during the past 24 hours for violating quarantine regulations.
Police said accordingly 54,612 persons have been arrested on the relevant charge since last October.
Meanwhile, Police has inspected 2,411 persons who attempted to travel in 1,220 vehicles across the Western Province border.
Police said 479 individuals among the group have been turned back after being issued stern warnings for attempting to travel across the border for non-essential purposes.
Meanwhile, Police said stern legal action will be taken against persons who use expressways to cross provincial borders for non-essential purposes.
Police also said special attention will be directed towards persons violating inter-provincial travel restrictions from today.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Police Media Spokesman Senior DIG Ajith Rohana said special roadblocks have been set up to cover all main roads, by-roads and bridges as well, especially surrounding the Western Province.
He noted persons who attempt to travel across provincial borders by other means will be arrested, and their vehicles seized.
