COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Over 25,000 individuals in 10 districts have been affected by adverse weather conditions in recent days.
The Disaster Management Centre said 6,250 families have been affected by heavy rains and gusty winds.
Gampaha has been the worst-hit area with over 18,800 individuals impacted, mainly by flooding.
According to the latest situation report by the DMC, 458 houses have been damaged due to bad weather.
Around 31 affected families have been relocated to safe shelters.
Meanwhile, the Department of Meteorology says the showery condition in the South-western part of the island is expected to enhance during next few days from today (3).
The Met Department accordingly predicts showers or thundershowers at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Southern and North-western provinces and in the Kandy and Nuwara-Eliya districts today.
It added fairly heavy showers above 75mm can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Southern provinces.
Showers or thundershowers are also likely in several places elsewhere, particularly in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening or night.
Meanwhile, the general public has been requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
