The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a stock of dried turmeric weighing over 2,023kg in the Negombo lagoon yesterday.
The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects while two vessels were seized.
A Navy ship searched a vessel that approached the Negombo lagoon on suspicion while 1,050kg of dried turmeric in 29 sacks were found.
Meanwhile, inquiries led to another vessel that was loaded with more than 973kg of dried turmeric in 26 sacks.
The 36 and 37 year old suspects, residents of Pitipana, have been handed over to the Customs Preventive Office in Katunayake for legal action.
