COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The total number of foreign nationals who have visited Sri Lanka this year has surpassed one million today.
The visitor number one million was a Russian national arrived in the country on an Oman Air flight.
The Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau organized a special ceremony at the Arrival lounge of the Bandaranaike International Airport to welcome the visitors and celebrate the milestone.
The Russian national and his family landed in an Oman Air flight that landed at around 2.10pm.
This is the first time since 2019 that the tourist arrival figure has surpassed one million.
Meanwhile, according to provisional data issued by the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority, 96,000 foreign nationals arrived in the island thus far in September.
Majority of those who visited Sri Lanka in 2023 were from India, Russia, the United Kingdom, Germany and France.
