Minister of Trade Bandula Gunawardana says a bag of goods containing 20 essential items worth more than Rs.2,600 in the market, will be made available at Rs.1,998.
Consumers can have the bag of goods, the ‘1998 Relief Pack’, delivered to homes by contacting 1998.
The package will be available at all Sathosa outlets from tomorrow while the 1998 hotline will be activated and distributed by the private sector together with Sathosa.
The Minister said a fee will not be charged for delivery during the first two weeks, adding that the programme is being implemented without any objective of gaining profit in order to ease the pressure on the public.
The Trade Minister speaking at a media briefing today said the relief package contains 20 essential items including four kilograms of rice, a kilogram each of flour, dhal, white and brown sugar and a packet of tea leaves.
