The 1904 SMS service for COVID-19 patients has been expanded to the Southern Province today.
Commander of the Army General Shavendra Silva said infected individuals in the Southern Province can accordingly direct a SMS to 1904 along with the respective letter, A, B or C, for their symptoms, age, date of birth and address.
He noted persons with respiratory illnesses and other complications must send the SMS with the letter A, while persons with fever and other symptoms B and asymptomatic individuals the letter C.
The Army Commander added patients can accordingly use the service to connect with a doctor, and further steps will be taken thereafter.
General Silva said the service is currently in place in the Western Province, regarding patients being directed to hospitals, intermediary treatment centres, or isolating at home.
The Army Commander noted around 20,000 persons are being managed through the service, operated by the COVID-19 Task Force, the Government Nursing Officers’ Association and a group of doctors.
