The Ministry of Education said due to the failure to comply with regulations and not following necessary standards when storing and transporting produce, a large quantity of locally produced vegetables and fruits are destroyed. According to the Agriculture Ministry, 221,955 MT of vegetables and 290,151 MT of fruits are destroyed annually. Based on the data, in 2021, food that can be consumed by 10 million had been destroyed. The Ministry said necessary steps are being taken to reduce food wastage especially after it has been cultivated by farmers through a multifaceted process.
