16 Members of Parliament representing the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna have directed a letter to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requesting him to immediately resign from the post of Executive President considering the prevalent situation in the country.
The letter has been forwarded by a group of Parliamentarians including MPs Dallas Alahapperuma, Channa Jayasumana, Nalaka Godahewa and Charitha Herath.
The letter states although the group of MPs sincerely dedicated themselves for the President’s victory in November 2019, the majority of the people have lost faith in the President.
Accordingly, the relevant letter requests that the position of the President be handed over to a mature Member of Parliament, who claim a clear majority and has no corruption charges leveled against him.
