15 health trade unions, including those attached to nursing, supplementary and interim services, will once again engage in a token strike today and tomorrow.
The token strike is being held owing to the failure by the Ministry of Health and government officials to address their grievances through the means of discussion despite the conduct of a token strike carried out on the 17th of November.
The Joint Council for Professions of Supplementary Medicine said the strike action is being organised based on seven demands including increasing the special duty allowance to Rs.10,000 and making the health service a closed service.
Speaking to NewsRadio, Chairman of the Health Professionals Association, Ravi Kumudesh said the Health Ministry is not professional enough to hold discussions despite it being brought up in Parliament during the 2022 Budget debate adding the medical administration is attempting to cover up their concerns.
Kumudesh said 50,000 individuals representing nurses, supplementary medical professionals, and medical professionals will participate in the token strike.
He said the trade union action will not be conducted at children’s hospitals, hospitals for expectant women, cancer hospitals, and at COVID-19 treatment centres.
He added emergency and essential services will also continue.
