The Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau has decided to extend the training period of women seeking to travel overseas as domestic workers.

Accordingly, the 15-day training period by the SLFBE Training Division has been extended to 28-days with effect from the 1st of February at NVQ  (National Vocational Qualification) level 3.

Accordingly, theory and practical training will be carried out over 25-days and three days will be allocated for NVQ assessment activities.

In addition, from the 1st of April 2023, women seeking to travel overseas for employment as domestic workers must register with the SLFBE with the NVQ 3 certificate and the Bureau training certification.

The new regulation will not apply to individuals who have undergone SLFBE training thus far and to those who have completed training on or before the 31st of January 2023.

The SLFBE said the decision was reached on the directives of Minister of Labour and Foreign Employment Manusha Nanayakkara to raise the standards of training programmes in order to send skilled and trained Sri Lankans overseas.
