1,367 new doctors received their appointment letters today (31) to commence internships.
The letters of appointment were handed over by Minister of Health Keheliya Rambukwella at a ceremony at the Ministry premises.
The appointments have been issued to hospitals across the island.
Minister Rambukwella said during a challenging period, the doctors have received the opportunity to contribute to improving the quality of the health service.
He added that humanity is the key to gaining achievements in the medical field claiming that doctors must learn to be compassionate.
Director General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena addressing the gathering said interns are embarking on a prestigious career while its quality depends on the quality of the doctors.
He said as patient care is a aspect of the health sector, doctors must pay attention to patients and devote themselves to ensuring a quality health system.
