Sri Lanka is due to receive around 120,000 Sputnik V vaccine second doses next week.
The matter was confirmed by Chairman of State Pharmaceuticals Corporation Dr. Prasanna Gunasena.
Sri Lanka has received 210,000 Sputnik V vaccine doses thus far.
159,089 individuals have received the first dose of the Sputnik V vaccine while 43,450 have been given the second jab.
Accordingly, the administering of the second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine is due to resume in Kandy and several other areas.
Meanwhile, health experts have pointed out that a majority of the coronavirus related deaths reported in the country are persons above the age of 60 years.
According to health officials, among those, a majority are unvaccinated individuals or those who have received only one vaccine dose.
The Ministry of Health is of the view that administering the second jab of the Sputnik V vaccine will further reduce the risk of senior citizens succumbing to the virus.
