COLOMBO (NewsRadio); The Ministry of Public Administration, Home Affairs, Provincial Councils and Local Government has confirmed 1,150 applications submitted under the programme to grant five-year leave of absence without pay for state sector employees have been approved.
NewsRadio has learnt over 25,000 applications have been filed under the programme.
The Public Administration Ministry said the approved applications were submitted within the past six months and it expects a significant increase in the number of persons applying for leave of absence under the scheme.
Applications will be approved only if the relevant employee has obtained clearance from the relevant heads of department or institution.
Based on the Public Administration circular No 14/2022 dated June 22, 2022 state sector workers are able to obtain leave of absence without pay to work in or out of Sri Lanka for a period of five years.
