COLOMBO (NewsRadio); Police say the group of 105 Myanmar nationals who were rescued by the Sri Lanka Navy in Northern waters yesterday, will be produced in court today.
The Navy said in a statement the distressed craft carrying 105 Myanmar nationals had drifted into Lankan territorial waters on Saturday night(17), following a mechanical failure while it was transporting the group from Myanmar to Indonesia.
The Sri Lanka Navy said it rescued the Myanmar nationals onboard a boat in Sri Lankan waters about 3.5 nautical miles north of Veththalakerni last morning (18).
The group of people was then brought to the Kankesanturai Harbour and provided with basic requirements last morning.
The group, which includes children and women, was subsequently handed over to the Kankesanturai Police.
They are scheduled to be produced before the Mallakam Magistrate’s Court today.
