Minister of Energy Udaya Gammanpila says 100 oil tanks adjacent to the Trincomalee Harbour are already vested with India, as part of the Indo-Sri Lanka Agreement.
The Minister organised a media briefing today to respond to charges that he is attempting to vest the Trincomalee oil tank farm with India.
Minister Gammanpila said he is engaged in efforts to reacquire the oil tanks vested with India.
He said even though trade unions are unaware of details of their own workplace, the tanks were already vested with India through agreements signed in 1987 and 2003.
The Minister denied charges levelled by an opposition member that he travelled via helicopter with the visiting Indian Foreign Secretary.
Minister Gammanpila also denied claims of Ven. Omalpe Sobitha Thera that 85 oil tanks will be vested with India adding they were already vested with India under the United National Party government.
