Steps have been taken to install 10 seismometers or earthquake measuring devices in the vicinity of the Victoria Dam in Kandy.

The devices have been installed based on the recommendations of the expert committee which was appointed recently after a number of tremors were reported across the country.

Speaking during a media briefing in Colombo today, Minister of Environment Mahinda Amaraweera said the public should not need to have undue fear over major earthquakes in the country.
