St Servatius’ College students take part in VISION programme at Presidential Secretariat

Students of St Servatius’ College, Matara, took part yesterday (28) in a special programme at the Old Parliamentary Chamber of the Presidential Secretariat under the ‘VISION’ initiative, which is implemented in collaboration with the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Education and the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

Addressing the gathering, Minister of Women and Child Affairs Saroja Savithri Paulraj emphasised that true wealth should not be measured solely in terms of money and material possessions, but should also encompass positive attitudes, integrity and human values.

Army Commander Lieutenant General Nilantha Premaratne, an alumnus of St Servatius’ College, also attended and exchanged views with the students on their future aspirations, personal development and the qualities they should cultivate to achieve success in life. He highlighted the importance of developing good human values and positive attitudes alongside acquiring knowledge during student life. Stressing the need to pursue chosen goals with dedication and determination, the Army Commander noted that knowledge, positive attitudes and purposeful action provide a strong foundation for future success.

Chief of Staff to the President Prabath Chandrakeerthi spoke about the lessons students could learn from President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s life and political journey. Senior Additional Secretary to the President Roshan Gamage briefed the students on the role and importance of the President’s Fund.

A video featuring significant moments and memories from the 2024–2026 period of the VISION programme was screened.

To mark the occasion, Lieutenant General Premaratne donated a set of essential books to the college, while a plant was presented on behalf of the college. Commemorative plaques were also exchanged between the two parties, symbolising the friendship and mutual respect between the college and the Sri Lanka Army.

In appreciation of the support extended to the programme and to commemorate the occasion, a commemorative gift was presented to Secretary to the President Dr Nandika Sanath Kumanayake by Captain Samitha Kurukulasuriya, Principal of St Servatius’ College, together with members of the academic staff and representatives of the college’s Old Boys’ Association.
